How long have you been doing CF?
My first official WOD was Bear on 4/7/2009, so more than two years. I don’t recall when I did the “free” workout, but I needed almost a week to get myself recovered and ready to come back for more.
With so many option out there, why CF?
The original choice was driven by the need to get stronger for my hobby/sport at the time, competitive ballroom dancing. Almost a year earlier I had read an article in Muscle & Fitness “Sweat Storm” by Eric Velazquez, which I saved for future reference. When I went looking for a place to get “stronger” the previous location of CMFN was 2 minutes from my office. I did lots of reading on CrossFit, watched videos and tried to make sense of the approach/methodology, and based on everything that I had read and watched…CrossFit just made sense to me.

How has CFMN impacted your daily activities/fitness/lifestyle/health/etc?
I’d say the biggest aspect is that it has given me a way to become stronger and healthier. In general the rest of my family has adopted to the changes in what we eat and my wife does CrossFit now.
What has been the most significant benefit?
I’m in the best shape of my life…and my wife agrees. I’ve lost over 20 pounds and I’ve had to buy all new clothes.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
It’s a tie… 3 reps Body Weight Overhead Squat, climbing the rope without using my legs, and the best time/result for our gym for a named WOD, Nicole.
What is your next short term goal? Long term goal?
Short term is to finish the remaining items for Intermediate fitness. Medium term would be to complete all of the Advanced fitness items. Long term goal is to through hike the Appalachian Trail (2181 miles), which would take 4-5 months depending on the pace.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that most members wouldn’t know.
In 1985, over roughly a week’s time, I hiked over 80 miles in the Havasu Canyon and Grand Canyon parks.
